Now
What I’m doing at the moment (August 2025)
- 🧑💻 Busily converting my workflows for writing and note taking to platform-agnostic, plaintext tools. This may just be a way to avoid making things, but it's where my head is at and I'm rolling with it.
- 📚 (Hopefully) picking up steam to write fiction again. I've been focused on other parts of my life for the last couple years.
- 🔊 Making the Abstractions podcast with my friend Justin Mayer.
What I’m reading about
- Art & Fear: Observations On The Perils (and Rewards) of Artmaking, by David Bayles & Ted Orland: Written in the ‘90s, explores a timeless struggle. Short and inspiring.
- Playground, by Richard Powers: Was given this by someone who thought it would be up my alley—they were right. Very lovely storytelling, though I’m about halfway through and a little afraid to find out what happens next.
Tools & Toys
- I recently switched from Spotify to Qobuz, because I’m increasingly unhappy with Spotify’s behaviour as a company, and would like to do more buying of music alongside my streaming. Qobuz has a music store, and (from what I can gather) pays more money to artists than competing services. We’ll see how I like it.
Why the heck is this page here?
The inspiration for a “now” page originally comes from Derek Sivers, and I’ve liked the idea since I came across it a few years back. The concept has its own site, here: https://nownownow.com/about
